Wavering in setting goal
“I wish to become a pilot during
my childhood. But on completion of tenth standard I wish to become an
aeronautical engineer”
“I wanted to be a doctor on
seeing my relatives but later I found myself more aligned to become an
engineer”
We hear such wavering in deciding
goal. It’s quite natural on part of every growing kid to be confused or
thinking about their career. Opinion on choosing a profession for one’s
livelihood may change with time i.e.,
a person wishing to be a lawyer during schooling may find being journalist is
more suitable for him when he completes high school.
Being in confusion: right or
wrong?
Well, being in confusion of
setting a goal is absolutely natural phenomenon hence we can’t rule it out as
right or wrong. Confusion only arises when one find better options that suits
them than earlier decision. With confusion, thinking catches fire in ones brain
and thoughts help in visualizing outcomes to decide. Hence we should say
confusion on setting a goal is good sign. The question that makes being in
confusion weather right or wrong arises based on why such confusion arisen and
how we dealing with confusion.
Reasons for wavering:
- Finding
better opportunities that were not known till then
- Knowing our interests shaping to be brighten on particular field
- Realizing the fact of our capabilities on being in a position
Dealing the wavering:
While one is in such state of
wavering in between childhood dream and upcoming interests in deciding goal,
one should be careful in rationalizing thoughts and facts. To deal with this
stage, take up a self SWOT ANALYSIS. SWOT analysis involves rational thinking
based on your needs and wishes which involves

facts about opportunities and roads ahead is key step in successful decision
making

ignore T- threats that impose on you to take up further steps
- ·
Visualize
yourself in your goal position and of course the way to reach it

Settle
on your fixed goal and proceed to settle in it
Once
having a clear cut idea with setting your goal evolving form wavering, one will
never take back step again.

teachers, guides, mentors need to answer children queries with patience and
