Ray of hope: Vaccine of COVID-19

From past few months, now and then we only came across the news of increase in corona virus spread. The virus COVID 19 was linked to same family of SARS & MERS which is a common cold.  With conferring status of reaching community spread in country COVID too spreading in the rate of common cold, just as its relation with its family. But the irony is that this novel virus is not harmless as cold. It starts as an infection in lungs or guts eventually destroying immune system and the fall of it results in death.

With time we got used to witnessing corona patient number from double digits to five digits number. Even though it is inevitable more than raise in number, raise in panic among us causing more distress. While frontline workers dedicated themselves in treating people affected with virus, entire nation struggling to save themselves from this unexpected havoc, scientists worked day and night to cure the disease with medicine or vaccine. Volunteers who agreed for clinical trials were real unsung heroes of 2020 chaos.

The news of COVID 19 vaccine phase one and two trails got succeeded from oxford came as a relief to entire world. Endless efforts of oxford scientists and doctors came into lame light with publication in THE LANCET journal on 20 July, 2020.

While we relayed on sanitizers, masks and immunity boosting food to save ourselves from deadly virus, vaccine might be effective means in curtailing disease. When tested on healthy adults of 18-50 years age with COVID -19 symptoms, chimpanzee adenovirus-vectored vaccine (ChAdOx1 nCoV-19) was proven to enhance immune responses and antibodies after 28 days. Report shows that said vaccine is safe. The results of third phase clinical trials are awaited.

On another hand, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) chosen NIIMS too initiated clinical trials of the first indigenous vaccine for Covid-19.  Indigenous vaccine is developed in collaboration with Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech Limited. The results of these clinical trials are awaited.

The wait came to halt and started adding hope as a fuel to see this pandemic to end. With this positive spurt of success let’s breathe in relief to see this pandemic too pass.
