Sensitive yet special aura

Oct-11-2019....The best thing to gift someone is our TIME. It was hectic day with lab studies still i made time out as program SWECHA fills solace to my heart. We SWASA organised second event of SWECHA An awareness program on menstrual hygiene at HOPE orphan home, Bapatla on the pleasant evening of international girl child day 2019. Around fifty girl students gathered in hall along with home chairperson. The best thing i encountered in the HOPE home is every child calls hope home chairperson as mom.

With this positive surge, i initiated my talk. Some girls know about what i was asking as their mom made them aware of menstruation and few girls were new to topic and they listened with great interest. So i started with changes that takes place in puberty. Emphasizing on internal changes as well i stated about white discharge and periods. I wanted to make talk more interesting as most of them are below 10 age group who were totally new to menstruation topic. Going ahead with small question "what is the importance of today?". "Girl child day..." common response from 50 girls at a time made hall reverberating with sweet melody. "Yes, its our day. So i want to tell more about us. We have precious and valuable thing within our aura that made us so special and sensitive. Can you imagine what it is?!"  "We care" "We are beautiful" "Good" various responses from group but still i am waiting for the exact one "and.....we can give birth to next generation" i told maintaining eye contact with everyone. My eyes got feast of many sparking eyes in return. Continuing my talk " Yes, we all were born from mother, an women who once was a girl like us. We born, we grow, we reach heights, we care for family, we give birth, we raise our kids, we teach our kids to succeed, and doing all these things with pure heart makes us more beautiful. So how come we have power to give birth?! Because we menstruate, we bleed every month. Let us know what happens within our body thats make us sensitive as well as strong."

I draw picture of female reproductive system on board and asked girls what is it. Some kept quite and some were smiling. "Yes it is female reproductive system. Most of you might have seen it in your science text books. With the onset of puberty, hormones from pituitary gland cause growth of reproductive system. From ovary, egg will be released from ovary on simulation of hormones which travels through fallopian tubes and reach uterus. Fine, tell me one thing whenever their is a competition or exam, what will you do.?! Get prepared for that to secure good marks yes or no?! In the same way uterus makes necessary preparation to hold fertilized egg in place to nourish future baby. Uterus prepares it self by lining its walls with many layers of wall material. And when you get to know your exam or competition is postponed what will you do?" "Stop preparing " girls sung in union. "In the same way uterus will also stop preparing itself as egg is not fertilized to become baby. When we attain specific age and married,  fertilized egg will became zygote which will be implanted in uterine wall. Until then uterus will not hold its preparation as such. Just imagine, can we eat food prepared yesterday. No.. why because it is not suitable. In the same way preparations of uterus will not useful even for next month. And hence, uterus will shed its wall material which comes out through vagina. And we call it as periods. We need to manage this blood flow with proper aids. Body applies pressure from all sides to shed uterine wall material and hence we have stomach pain, back pain and so on. One need to take good food to sustain this pain as we cant stop it. This entire process occurs in cycle and process will start again. It is called as menstrual cycle. It take  21-35 days to compete cycle and hence one may get periods twice a month whose cycle is shorter and others may get periods once in two months as their cycle is longer. And both the extremes are common. Initial irregular cycles will be regularized within two years of first period and one will experience 28 days average cycle. As we are sensitive to this, we  need to maintain proper hygiene and manage our health to became successfully special and unique. We have many examples of leading women in every field, right from sports to administration. Nothing can stop a beaming heart. So girls lets be confident to lead our path."

As explaining how to manage health and hygiene, most of the girls told along with me before completion of sentence. I am very glad to hear them and it makes me adore their mom. Active interaction and distribution of sanitary napkins was followed after talk on menstrual hygiene. Girls showed keen interest and we felt blessed to serve GIRL CHILD who bear the beauty of CREATION. At the end of session, mom of hope home appreciated our noble cause and effectiveness of designed interaction, way of leading the topic without hint of shame. She even guided us to reach more orphanages and schools in rural areas. Her words of acceptance, appreciation and guidance fills our spirt with colours to beam radiantly in nature.
